God had other ideas though and not only do I get to constantly learn from and be encouraged by my dad, but my husband is also that kind of man. Ty had the kids for 10 days so I could go to the wedding. He made lunches, drove the kids to school, did all the laundry, worked, took care of my garden (which he does NOT love), and when I got home he wasn't angry or resentful in the least. Actually, this wasn't that different from what he does when I am home. He probably cleans as much or even more than I do. He's a great dad who plays with the kids, teaches them things, shares his own passions with them, and makes us all laugh. He is the great stabilizer in our family. I know for sure I wouldn't be where I am today without him by my side!
So today, a few days after the US Father's Day, and a week and a half after our Belgian Father's Day I want to publicly say happy father's day Dad and happy father's day Ty! You guys are some of the best characters I know with love, compassion and integrity that far surpasses my own. Dad, thanks for teaching me what a dad looks like, what our dad in heaven loves like, and what to look for in the dad to my own kids. Ty, thanks for walking by my side day after day, year after year and continuing to love me and our kids so well. You guys are the best and the only thing that would have made father's day better than grilling elk burgers with my dad, was if Ty could have been there with a Belgian beer in hand to go with it! I love you guys!!!
