We are so abundantly rich in relationships. God has blessed us beyond what we ever dreamed. When we look at a map of the U.S., or the world for that matter, we see places that are dear to us all over for they hold people who are dear to us. The amount of those who love us is mind boggling! And while we do tend to come and go from physical presence due to moves and travel, we eagerly look forward to when we pick back up again for those are our most amazing friendships!
This week we were talking about friends we have grown apart from. Some of those friends were from 2 moves ago. Some of them live right here but due to our transient living we come and go from their lives. We were talking about the difference between drifting apart as in not having as much in common anymore, and living physically apart but still having the same heartbeat. That night, my friend called after seeing missed calls recently from me. She (and her hubby) were some we had been talking about that afternoon. Despite the fact we haven't seen each other in a year and a half, and the fact that she is still a bit sleep deprived from 3 very young kids, we talked for an hour and a half! In fact, my phone died and when she couldn't reach me right away she called Ty's cell so we could talk some more. I love her! I miss her! We are in such different places than we were when we lived in the same community 5 years ago. Yet, our hearts are unusually close. The very beat of our hearts matches. They desire authentic relationships and community. So do we. We live life best in the realm of community. So do they. All of us yearn for those who do not know the freeing love of Jesus. We had the great privilege of mentoring them for a season. We didn't set out to do so, it just naturally occurred. Now they find themselves in that place with others coming behind them. What fun to share stories of that! To ask for prayer about deep things burdening our hearts. To know when the other answers that there is more to the answer and to keep digging until the whole story spills out-because we love each other and we care deeply and truly to know and walk through it.
