And in case you're wondering if my weekend turned around, it did! After washing machine was reassembled (and clean!) we took the kids swimming where I pretended to be a kid and had a great time! Then we had a friend's birthday party that night which was also lots of fun. Today while Ty was gone the kids and I cleaned and purged a bunch of their toys (which was not fun grown up work again-but at least they were in it too). All in all, I survived and this week's agenda is to re-spray a few areas of the house for bugs! That is one grown up job I'll happily take on!
On Saturday I dismantled our washing machine (with Ty's help) in order to clean it and hopefully eliminate the stinky smell. While in the midst of total chaos in the laundry room, I killed a large and very determined centipede. It was disgusting! Then while wiping up water from where the hose dripped when we disconnected it, I found a cockroach. It was dead. It was still a cockroach. In the house. Ewwwwww! About that time I was grumbling about Georgia and living in "the South" (at least regarding the U.S.). However, as I began to scrub out crusty mildew gunk from the washer tub with a wire brush that was spraying yucky water everywhere, I realized that wasn't specific to Georgia. That was specific to being a grown up and so I was lamenting being a grown up that afternoon! It reminded me of when my parents came to visit and Ty and I had been married a couple years. My sis and niece were also with us and one day there was a decent sized spider on the wall. Ty was at work or school so I asked my dad to kill it. Now, my dad is one of the most laid back people ever, but he forcefully said "NO I won't kill it. You're grown up and this is YOUR house so YOU kill it. I don't like killing bugs but I did what I had to in my house while you were growing up. Now it's your turn." I was shocked-my dad, the brave bug killer hated it as much as me? Well Saturday that was me all over again. Some days being a grown up is totally overrated!
